I think people that dismiss religious people as idiots do a lot to hurt the image of rationale and sensible Atheists like ourselves. No one likes being told they are an idiot. There are ways of saying that you believe people are not thinking clearly without resulting to name calling. That type of mud slinging ends up resulting in the perpetuation of the angry mean Atheist stereotype. It's hard to avoid people throwing out that stereotype but when people jump on the band wagon of ad hominem attacks on others, it only hurts things. Also, just wanted to say hello. :)

I completely agree, it really bothers me. I already get enough people making unfounded claims that I ‘hate all religious people’ and ‘think all religious people are idiots’, and it drives me mad considering that I have a variety of religious friends and aquantences from a variety of different backgrounds. It sheds some light on the fact that there are merely idiots (the people who use these types of insults) and non-idiots, and whether they are atheistic or theistic is completely irrelivant in a case such as this. Good to hear from you by the way!
