tmrss asks:
you can hate on religion all you want but you cant deny that the average christian is a bad person. Most christians dont condone the bad parts of the bible, and call it outdated or whatever. If religion gives people a sense of community and meaning in the world what's the big deal?
I'm not exactly pro religion, and am personally a fan on Richard Dawkins and the other horsemen, but if people find a sense of worth in the church then what's the big deal? What gives you the moral right to deny their beliefs? You're not superior than anyone, you're just average like the rest of us. I can accept that the bible has awful parts, just like all religions do have and that more often than not religion is used as a tool by people to justify their awful actions but the majority of christians/jews/muslims are just normal people who gain a sense of security, self worth or simple happiness from being religious.
GAR answers:
“If people rely on a fairytale to feel human what’s the big deal man?” “If people contradict themselves by only accepting the good parts of a holy scripture and calling the bad bits ‘outdated’ so they don’t seem like assholes what’s the big deal man?”
What gives me the moral right to deny their beliefs? Sorry, I wasn’t aware I had to accept everyone’s beliefs. I didn’t know it was immoral to deny the belief in racism or physical abuse towards children. I mean shit, they’re beliefs too, right?
When did I ever say that the majority of Christians are not ‘good’ people? When did I ever say I was ‘superior’ to anyone? You want to talk about fucking superiority complex? Take a second look at the church, and be a little less short-sighted.
